Creative
Writing Workshop #1
Up to FOUR complete
45-60 minute presentations. Topic outline includes:
- Introduction
- Storytelling -
(Includes an example)
- Where to get Ideas
(with audience participation)
- Turning Ideas into
Plots and Stories (with audience participation)
- How Authors Work
- Examples from the
Castle Rose Series (includes a brief reading from an upcoming book)
- Questions and Answers
(for as long as time allows)
- Book signing and
meeting the students (again, as time allows)
Creative
Writing Workshop #2
Up to FOUR
complete 45-60 minute presentations. Topic outline includes:
- Introduction
- Memorable Stories
(Includes an example)
- Memorable Characters
(with audience participation)
- Creating Characters
(with audience participation)
- Using Words to
Describe Pictures
- Examples from the
Castle Rose Series (includes a brief reading from an upcoming book)
- Questions and Answers
(for as long as time allows)
- Book signing and
meeting the students (again, as time allows)
Arrangements:
- Approximately three
weeks before the event I will provide a promotion pack, including:
- Posters for advertising the event
- A book order-form master, suitable for copying (each child should
receive one)
- Several copies of Into the Hidden Lands for classroom sharing
- An "author visit" checklist with tips and hints for a successful
event
- Your school will
distribute the book order form to all students that will be attending
the event, and will collect the money for each book ordered. There are
several book pricing options available - contact Starbell
Books for more information.
- At least two days
before the event, your school will provide the total number of books
ordered.
- I will bring all
of the books with me, plus a few extra for anyone that decides to buy
the day of the event.
Requirements:
I have very few requirements.
Here are just a couple of things that would be nice if possible.
- Microphone
- Overhead projector
- Some sort of table
or podium to keep my notes and water
- A table or desk
for signing books after the presentation
Fees
and payments:
- My standard fee
for this event is $395 for a half-day (one or two presentations),
or $695 for a full day (up to four presentations), plus travel
expenses.
- Payment for the
presentation and the book sales should be made the day of the event.
This can be in the form of one or two checks, whichever is easier for
you.
- Special pricing
is available for Scout Troops and Youth Groups, generally based
on a "per-person" rate. Standard pricing is $8 per participant,
with EACH receiving a complimentary copy of Into the Hidden Lands,
personalized and signed by the author.
Other
Important Notes:
- Book discounts
are available for schools purchasing multiple classroom copies.
- Other arrangements
are possible -- I'm willing to work with you to meet your requirements.
